The goals of public involvement are to effectively educate and engage the public on the Pinto Valley Mine EIS to solicit meaningful public input during key phases of the EIS process.
Public Objection on Final EIS and Draft ROD
Publication of the final EIS and draft ROD initiates a 45-day public objection period for interested parties who have previously submitted formal comments on the project.
Public Comment on Draft EIS
The Forest Service published a notice of availability in the Federal Register on December 13, 2019, announcing the availability of the draft EIS for public review and comment during a 45-day comment period ending January 27, 2020. During the draft EIS comment period, the Forest Service hosted two public meetings to provide additional information to the public and to solicit comments that were used to inform preparation of the final EIS. Public Scoping on the Proposed Project
The Tonto National Forest issued a Notice of Intent to prepare the Pinto Valley Mine EIS on March 28, 2017, initiating the formal scoping period for the project. The Forest Service hosted two public scoping meetings on April 18 and April 20, 2017 to provide the public with an opportunity to ask questions; learn more about the proposed project; and to provide comments that will help inform the scope of analysis for the PVM EIS. The scoping period closed on April 27, 2017. Materials presented during the public scoping period are provided below:
